THE TOUCH
Soon after the examinations were over,my grandma and I took a vacation to my native village.I was so excited. We boarded a public bus.Travelling by a public bus is an ordeal.Bus was crowded like hell.My grandma was seated in a senior_citizens seat.I stood up near my grandma as there were no more seats in the bus.
After sometime i heard a voice saying "Aye paapa!come and sit here".He was a middle aged man, probably equal to my fathers age. He was well dressed and looks like a real gentleman. He had given me a little place.
I was seated happily, looking out of the window and i was like Oh my God! The rising sun,the greenery, the rivers, way more...beautiful than paintings i have seen.
Suddenly, there was a crawling sensation on my shoulders.I was shocked to see that gentleman was trying to "TOUCH "my hands, grab my shoulders.I didn't understand what was happening but i can feel that this "TOUCH" was not the right one. This "TOUCH" is one that i doesn't quite feel safe.I felt like a fish out of water.I want to put an end to it,i stood up from the seat very quickly because of nervousness and rushed to my grandma.
I was just ten years old at that time.I didnt tell this to anyone as I was shocked and didn't really know what to say.It stuck with me for a long time.
Later,it took me several days to know that the situation i faced was an "ASSAULT".Yes! It was a "sexual assault".
Just because a women didn't report an assault doesn't mean an assault never happened to her.Every women once in her lifetime comes across such incidents. After a sexual assault, many of them feel embarrassment, shame, guilt eventhough she is not the culprit.Don't be like that.Always remember you are the boss of your body.No one should have the right to touch or make you feel uncomfortable unless you give them the "right".
There are many laws and rules which are provided by our judiciary in prohibiting sexual assaults.Do you still believe in such laws even after witnessing a heinous crime of asifa and nirbhaya. No!Not at all!right?
Have your own laws.Your laws should be made up of self-confidence, self respect, authenticity. Never be afraid to raise your voice publicly against sexual assaults.
All we need is integrity, respect and consistency.Desire yourself that your status and position in society should rise "HIGHER".
